Agriculture & Natural Resources

Our program provides education, training and technical assistance to individuals and businesses concerned with profitable agriculture.

What Is Agriculture and Natural Resources?

Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) is a program area of the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service. Extension ANR programs are part of the outreach program of the University Of Kentucky College Of Agriculture. We provide informal education in agricultural production and environmental stewardship.

Departmental specialists, researchers, and county agents develop and implement ANR programs. In addition to production agriculture, a small staff of Extension Associates provides focused assistance to state and county staff on interdisciplinary and critical-need programs. These programs may deal with the interface between production agriculture and environmental stewardship. Associates also address the relationship between farmers and non-farm rural and urban citizens. Our programs make a difference in the lives of millions of Kentuckians through research-based education.

Working with our other land grant partner, Kentucky State University, we extend the resources of the University to the people in their local communities. County agents serve as the link between people in every Kentucky county and experts in the universities. They coordinate and provide educational programs for the public through meetings and workshops, field days, personal communications, and web or satellite broadcasts. Agents also provide publications, newsletters, computer programs, videos, and other educational materials.

WELCOME CHAD ALLEN

Please join us in welcoming our new County Extension Agent for Agriculture & Natural Resources,
Chad Allen.

"I was born, raised and currently live in Perry County. I graduated from Alice Lloyd College with a bachelor’s in arts in education and a Bachelors in Science from Morehead State University in Agriculture. I also have a master’s degree from Union College in Administration and Leadership. I am transitioning from Meade Tractor where I was the territory sales manager with John Deere to over 14 counties in Eastern Kentucky on Equipment for the last 5 and half years. Previously, I have worked as a store manager with tractor supply, worked in the coal business and, was in School administration as an athletic director. I own a small farm that currently raises 35 brood cows and a few head of goats. I have previously owned and operated 50 bee hives and extracted honey for retail sale. I have had the opportunity to be involved in many organizations and was elected to The Soil and Conservation Board in Perry County as well as the Extension Council Chairman and Ag Council Chairman and served on the 4-H Council. I also have been serving at the secretary/treasurer of the Mountain Cattlemen’s Association. My greatest accomplishment in my life is my 9-year-old daughter, Addison, who is currently in the 4th grade at Roy. G. Eversole Elementary. She not only makes me the proudest father you will find but she is also my best friend. I am excited to be in Floyd County and look forward to meeting everyone and being able to assist in any way I can for the farmers within Floyd County."

Hunting is counterproductive to agency eradication efforts. Hunting fails as a eradication tool for wild pigs due to their high productive rate and intelligence. Help in the fight! Report wild pig sightings.
